Trade deficit recorded during first five months of 2015

Vietnam recorded a trade deficit of more than US$3 billion, despite an increase in exports, in the first five months of 2015, according to the most recent statistics released by the Vietnam Customs agency. 

In the period, total exports were valued at US$63.45 billion, a 7.7% increase, equivalent to US$4.55 billion, on a yearly basis. In terms of imports, the total value reached US$66.5 billion, up by 16.4% or US$9.36 billion. As a result, there was a US$3.05 billion deficit in trade in the first five months of 2015. Total import –export turnover for the period reached US$129.94 billion, up 12% from the figure for the same period last year.
