"Quang Ninh — Viet Nam Heritage and World Natural Heritage” ceramic mural set up to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Quang Ninh Province and the 25th anniversary of Ha Long City.

The 2,234 square metre ceramic picture is entitled "Quang Ninh — Viet Nam Heritage and World Natural Heritage”. It was set up to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Quang Ninh Province and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Ha Long City.

Located at the Cai Dam intersection of main roads leading to the Bai Chay tourist site, the mural is part of a construction project to connect the Hau Can and Ha Long roads.

Authorities in Ha Long said they had submitted a dossier requesting the ceramic relief sculpture be recognised as the largest in Vietnam.

The mural depicts the natural beauty and wonders of the world heritage site of Ha Long Bay, a prominent place in Quang Ninh Province.

It also reflects a process of creation, construction and development of the heritage lands.

The project will help improve the landscape and tourist routes in the city and promote images of nature, culture and human life, authorities said at an inauguration ceremony held last week.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Vu Thi Thu Thuy has urged authorities in Ha Long to focus on promoting public participation in preserving the work and the space around it to make sure the area can become an urban architectural centre.

“This will attract tourists to the city in particular and the whole province in general,” said the official.

Hoang Thu Trang, a local citizen, said it was amazing to see such great artwork in the centre of the city.

“The content of the mural is very impressive,” said Trang. “It is a convergence of world and Vietnamese heritages which are blended together in a perfect layout. The colours are very harmonious and beautiful. I hope more tourists will come to Ha Long to see this work.”
